Gran Via 04:20

about

In this work does not use any instrument, only environmental sound captured with a pocket recorder during one of my visits to Madrid. Everyday sounds and noises of the big city that I've processed
with filters, always seeking to provide them with some sense.

Some themes have also resorted to changing pitch and tempo to give the sound of a certain density that had interested me according to the experience that gave me the background noise from certain places.
For examplen the song "In a restaurant on Paseo del Prado" the voices of the guests suggested to me a kind of continuous drone, bit random.

The song "In the Moncloa Subway station" the wandering chaotic and anonymous people suggested me a consistent basis metal percussion alluding to depersonalization and dehumanization of these enclosures. Something like I did with "Gran Via" although here the noise of cars and ambulances are mixed with the lost words of passersby.

The theme "A voyage. In the subway from Moncloa to Callao" its duration corresponds to that of the trip I made tape recorder in hand and use the symbolism of the journey, the journey of initiation, to give this music an oriental atmosphere. Another trip is the descent down the street Carmen to the Puerta del Sol But in this contemplation of the gray faces of the people and the lost gazes I am inclined to give the theme "Walking down the street Carmen" a ghostly atmosphere, dark.

Walking through Retiro Park, a cold morning, I heard the music of repetitive tones of a saxophone musician who nobody listened. Fully customize the melody of the saxophone and the dowry of a plaintive tone, trying to recreate that scene in "A musician in the Retiro Park".

Finally, I went on a Sunday morning in the church of San Jerónimo el Real to capture the ambient sound of the interior. The constant presence, and inevitable, the tourists made it impossible to silence. This circumstance expressed by a constant ringing that does not become overwhelming. Where some peace mixed with a slight buzz on "In the Church of San Jerónimo el Real"
